Marc D. Legris, M.D.

Dr. Legris finished his training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Baystate Medical Center the Western Campus of Tufts University Medical School in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1995. He was with Brookfield Family Medicine from 1995 to 1996 then branched out to open and build a strong primary care practice (Housatonic Internal Medicine and Pediatrics) in New Milford, Connecticut with the assistance of the Danbury Office of Physician Services from 1996 through 2007 seeing persons of all ages for both well care and disease prevention and management but also care of ill patients in an outpatient setting only.

Subsequently, Dr. Legris diversified his practice toward a more traditional primary care model, moving his practice to Sharon, Connecticut in 2008. He built up a primary care practice again with adults and children upon the departure of the entire Sharon Pediatrics practice as well as several primary care physicians from northwestern Litchfield County. He cared for all patients both in an office setting as well as in the hospital, serving as one of three pediatricians admitting children while also attending deliveries and C-sections for Sharon Hospital. During this time, he additionally provided part-time coverage for the adult hospitalist service as well, admitting his own patients as well as those without an admitting physician to Sharon Hospital. His skills and capabilities as both an office practice physician as well as a provider of inpatient care grew significantly with his Sharon Hospital experience. Athena Health Systems was the electronic health record system launched for the Regional Health Care practices for which his Sharon office was the initial trial setting. However, splitting time between inpatient and outpatient services prevented optimal development of either service line. After the acquisition of Sharon Hospital by Essent Healthcare most of the employed physician work force was downsized, allowing Dr. Legris to move back to strictly outpatient care he found to be more rewarding through an opportunity with Norwalk Hospital. Working within Norwalk Hospital Physician and Surgeons group allowed Dr. Legris to execute his practice development skills once again by serving as practice development and medical director. There he set up the Immediate Care Center of New Canaan where he continued to see patients of all ages with all different problem types in an outpatient-only urgent care type of setting. Subsequently in 2015 Dr. Legris took a position with Concentra Medical Center as a floating staff physician in their Connecticut centers. After a year he settled at the Torrington Medical Center as medical director. Since that time, he has continued to develop new skills in occupational medicine, with acute and chronic injury care as well as standard urgent care delivery.

Dr. Legris was born in Troy, Ohio, moving to Kentucky as a 1st grader with his parents due to job change and most of his family based out of the Lexington area. He is the youngest of 6 children with 3 Registered Nurses in the family. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio for college where he met his wife, Dana, who is a Trumbull, Connecticut native. They both obtained their bachelor’s Degrees in Biology from Xavier and moved to Lexington, Kentucky where they were married, and Marc attended medical school at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He received his M.D. Degree with distinction and the Lange Publications Outstanding Performance Award in 1991. He also received the A.B. Chandler Distinguished Service Award as a third-year medical student in 1990 for organizing and co-managing a free medical clinic for the homeless at the Lexington Salvation Army.

Dana, his spouse, is originally from Trumbull, Connecticut. With her family still residing in Connecticut, they found New England to be a very satisfying environment to build a family and have considered it their home for the past 30 years. Marc spent 4 years in a combined Medicine/Pediatrics residency. He was the only resident from Baystate Medical Center to receive the Tufts University Excellence in Teaching Award in his final year of training, awarded by the Tufts University medical students completing their clinical training at Baystate Medical Center. He was also a co-recipient of the Department of Pediatrics Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year Award for 1995 at Baystate Medical Center. He obtained his Board Certification in Pediatrics in October 1995 and in Internal Medicine in August 1996 both of which he has continued to maintain. Marc’s clinical interests include consultation medicine including preoperative patient assessment and behavioral pediatrics. He finds treating adolescents a challenge and enjoyed his tenure as the school physician for the Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut. While developing a branch of Danbury Hospital’s Occupational Health Department, Marc was introduced to this specialty by serving as the company physician for Nestlé’s/Food Ingredient Specialists previously based in New Milford also. His tenure with Danbury Hospital’s Executive Committee and position on Danbury Office of Physician Services’ primary care division as Housatonic Internal Medicine and Pediatrics’ Medical Director provided him with many years’ experiences and a strong background with managerial skills as a physician executive.

Marc and Dana have two children. Joseph recently obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Roger Williams University and is employed by the Naval Underwater Warfare Center in Rhode Island. Sophie is a 25-year-old Graduate of Bethel High School now attending the day program at Ability Beyond in Bethel, CT. They lived in New Milford, Connecticut for over 15 years where they were active in their community with a past presidency held by Dana in the Woman’s Club of Greater New Milford and both helping with the New Milford High School Boosters Club as well as previously involved parishioners at St. Francis Xavier church. They have recently moved to Oxford, Connecticut to be near Dana’s 81-year-old mother. Their interests include cooking, hiking, antiquing, and gardening. Dana holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Marc steals away for fly fishing during rare moments of time off. They are big dog lovers. As soon as Joseph and Sophie were old enough, they rescued a Yellow Labrador Retriever and now are proud owners of Bixby, a King Charles Spaniel-Standard Poodle mix. Sophie has been active in year-around Special Olympics competitions and Joseph married his high-school sweetheart in October 2021.
